Words Of Wise Women

Celebrating wise women and their impact

Words of Wise Women

On International Women’s Day, we celebrate the women who have shaped science, medicine, and genomics — and share words of wisdom from the wise women of MapmyGenome and beyond.

Women in Genomics and Science

Women have made foundational contributions to the science of genetics and genomics — from Rosalind Franklin’s X-ray crystallography work that was critical to the discovery of the DNA double helix, to Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer Doudna’s Nobel Prize-winning development of CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing technology. Today, women lead research teams, genetic counselling programmes, and genomics companies across the world.

Women’s Health and Genomics

Genomics plays a particularly important role in women’s health. Hereditary breast and ovarian cancer (BRCA1/BRCA2), hereditary colorectal cancer, carrier screening for conditions that affect children, prenatal genetic testing, and pharmacogenomics for medications commonly prescribed to women — all are areas where genetic testing can make a profound difference to women’s health outcomes.

At MapmyGenome, our team of certified genetic counsellors — many of them women — provide expert, compassionate guidance to individuals and families navigating genetic health conditions, risk assessment, and preventive health planning.

Know Your Genetic Health Profile

Genomepatri by MapmyGenome covers hereditary cancer risk, cardiovascular health, nutrition, fitness, and 100+ other health traits. Oncomap offers a dedicated hereditary cancer risk panel including BRCA1/BRCA2. Both include certified genetic counselling.
