MapmyGenome Looks to Popularise Genomics with Lower Prices
News coverage, September 13, 2015
MapmyGenome, the Hyderabad-based molecular diagnostics company providing personal genomics and diagnostics, is looking at launching newer tests priced lower for greater adoption. These would be useful in knowing the genetic predisposition to certain disorders and in evolving the course of future action, according to Anu Acharya, Founder and CEO.
“The awareness levels about possibilities of genomics are low. We first want to create awareness. We are expanding to Delhi, Mumbai, Goa and other cities. There is a lot of untapped potential in India. We will look at overseas markets in phases.” — Anu Acharya
MapmyGenome currently has about 47 products including Genomepatri, Sugargene, Cardiomap, Oncomap, Brainmap, Myfitgene, SmartSport, and others. A genetic counsellor helps correlate family history and lifestyle with the genetic profile and suggests preventive measures. Genomepatri is a comprehensive product; other products are priced from ₹3,000 onwards, with health plans from ₹900 onwards.
“More products will be launched and the effort will be to lower the price points wherever possible to make the tests mainstream.” — Anu Acharya
The company has tied up with multiple hospital and healthcare brands including Apollo, Care Hospitals, Manipal Hospitals, and Sunshine, and has partnered with Snapdeal.
“A lot of things can be prevented or at least detected in early stages. With focus on wellness and preventive healthcare, the usage of our tests is bound to increase.” — Anu Acharya
