Five Reasons to Participate in a Long-Distance Run
On August 29–30, the city of Hyderabad saw thousands of people — young and old — participating in various long-distance races as part of the Airtel Hyderabad Marathon. Many from Team MapmyGenome participated in the 10-km run with zeal and verve — and all successfully finished, well before time. Here are five reasons our team members are eagerly awaiting the next long-distance run.
1. The Thrill of Challenge
All of us love the thrill of a challenge — whether it’s achieving a personal goal, beating a previous record, or competing with a friend. We had team members competing against each other, regular runners improving their timing, and first-timers worried about finishing in time. At the finish line, we had all happy faces.
2. Guts & Glory
A 10-km run takes guts. It requires consistent training, persistence when the going gets tough, strength, and energy. And the glory? That’s why people post about their successful completion — it’s a genuine achievement worth celebrating.
3. A Healthier Lifestyle
People typically start adding fitness training and diet improvements 30–60 days before a long-distance run — and many switch to a healthier lifestyle permanently after crossing the finish line.
“My timing was good, but I want to see an improvement. Fitness has always been part of my schedule, but now I’ll focus on running.” — Arun Kiran, Team MapmyGenome
4. Weight Loss & Health Benefits
Running and walking every day helps with weight loss and inch loss. Many of our team members were thrilled about the results achieved in just one month of training.
“Five years after turning a fitness freak, the number on the weighing scale is the least exciting part. Mentally, physically, there is this amazing freedom that comes with regularly working out. Less stressed out, more in control.” — Rasika Raman, Fitness Expert, MapmyGenome
5. Team Spirit
For many of us, it was a time to bond with team members outside the office. Competition became healthy, and everyone motivated each other. Some of the best moments were when strangers encouraged each other to keep going.
