ET Startup Awards 2015: Anu Acharya Has Made Her Mark with DNA Testing
ET Bureau, August 14, 2015
An entrepreneur who started her journey in the telecom and IT sectors, Anu Acharya is well-regarded for her contribution to genomics research, mainly through her molecular diagnostics company MapmyGenome. An alumna of IIT Kharagpur, she founded Ocimum Biosolutions in 2000 — a genomics outsourcing platform that raised $17 million in equity investment and acquired three companies globally.
In 2011, Acharya turned her attention to a new venture: MapmyGenome — a rare enterprise engaged in developing genomics solutions for predictive diagnosis and prognosis using DNA testing. The company raised $1.1 million in a Pre-Series A round from Rajan Anandan (Google India), Satveer Singh Thakral (Singapore Angel Network), and others.
“At MapmyGenome, we hope to impact more than 100 million lives by 2030 and to create a unique database for the Indian population to understand the amazing genetic diversity within it.” — Anu Acharya, Founder & CEO, MapmyGenome
MapmyGenome was also recognised as the Emerging Company of the Year-2015 in the Devices and Diagnostics category at Bangalore Bio 2015, presented by the Karnataka government’s Department of Information Technology, Biotechnology and Science and Technology.
